Number
10 (Grace, Divine Intervention?)
The
Wheel of Chance? The Chaos principle? A random occurrence that
circumvents karma? Doubtful - but there's no arguing that mystery
surrounds and suffuses the whole notion of fortune – who it comes
to and why. Whether born into through family, born into by way of
carrying some special endowment, or winning the lottery, the question
of how and why is pondered by many. Throughout this particular
treatise on the Tarot, you will read much about karma and its
workings, and if it's mystery that turns you on, karma is one subject
will last you a lifetime. To make an attempt to put the Wheel of
Fortune – let's think of it for the moment as an 'unexpected
acquisition' - into terms of karma, let's begin by noting it's
position in the lineup of the Major Arcana. It follows 'The Hermit,'
and as such could be seen as an outgrowth of deep meditation. When we
delve deep into our subconscious, or ascend to our super-conscious,
unexpected developments may come our way - such as a life-changing
idea, or the discovery of an artistic ability hidden within which
reveals itself to us. That could be seen as a welcomed and
'unexpected acquisition', could it not? The Wheel of Fortune could
also be thought of as Grace, or Divined Intervention. An inner quest
brings us closer to our center, where we approach the sphere of the
center of the Universe - where all things originate. Fortunate
circumstances don't normally arise from random chance, but if you win
50 million dollars in the lottery, well, that's not normal. I'd be
speechless. All I could say is “Congratulations.”
Is
the lottery the central question here, by the way? I'll bet that when
this card pops up, winning big flashes through the minds of almost
everyone who draws it. The only thing I could say about the lottery
with certainty is, if you don't play, you won't win. And, it's a game
that's set up to guarantee a winner, so someone is bound to get it.
No mystery there, but is that someone karmically due for a great
blessing - or perhaps curse? Who knows? It's the joker card in the
deck! We don't need to 'understand' it all, do we? Let's enjoy the
leap from predictability, not get too sure of ourselves, and good
luck!
